18 h, dec 3, 2010 y - GLAAD Celebrates 25 Years Of LGBT Images In The Media Amber Heard Tasya van Ree AMBER COMES OUT

Description:

Amber Heard and Tasya van Ree attended GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Celebrates 25 Years Of LGBT Images In The Media Show on December 3, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.

During a ceremony presenting former GLAAD president Richard Jennings with the first-ever GLAAD Founders Award, Amber Heard declared she was sick of being part of the problem -

'I think when I became aware of my role in the media, I had to ask myself an important question, "Am I part of the problem?"
'Injustice can never be stood for. It always must be fought against and I just was sick of it being a problem.’

And she explained how, by hiding her sexual identity, she felt she was admitting it was a bad thing to be gay: 'I personally think that if you deny something or if you hide something, you're inadvertently admitting it's wrong.

'I don't feel like I'm wrong. I don't feel like millions of people are wrong because they love who they love or they were born how they were born.'
Amber and and Van Ree have been an item since 2008, but the actress says it's thanks to groups such as GLAAD that she was able to finally open up about who she is.

'I think that organizations like GLAAD make that possible because if it weren't for opinions being changed, people being influenced, people being engaged to do the right thing, then there would be no prerogative for anyone to come out.'
