may 1, 1773 - The Tea Acts of 1773

Description:

The Tea Act of 1773 was one of several legislative measures imposed onto the American colonies by the British government following the Seven Years' War (also known as the French and Indian War). The goal of the act was to help alleviate the financial troubles of trading companies, as well as to be a means to undercut the price of illegal tea being smuggled into the American colonies. During the mid to late 1700s, nearly 90% of all tea in the colonies was illegally obtained and smuggled.
