apr 3, 1077 - Patriarch of Aquileia invested with Friuli, Istria, Carniola
Description:
With an act of April 3, 1077, the Emperor Henry IV attributed the title of Count of Friuli to the patriarch Sigeardo, ("comitatus Fori Iulii)", together with the relative fief ("beneficeum quod Ludovicus comes habebat "), Gifts (" regalia "), rights and income of the county (" ducatus "), making the Aquileian Church autonomous from the Duchy of Carinthia and giving it temporal power over the whole of Friuli and large neighboring territories. In this way the Patriarch became Duke of Friuli and Marquis of Istria and Carniola.
