Description:

It was a result of violent riots in Chicago's Haymarket Square. The Haymarket Riot were a reaction to police brutality during a strike at the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company. In an attempt by the police to shield strikebreakers from the strikers, one person was killed and others were wounded. Then an unknown person tossed a bomb into the crowd and the riot resulted in the death of 7 police officers. In the aftermath of the incident, eight anarchist labor leaders were arrested and convicted of instigating violence and conspiring to commit murder.
