The assassination occurred happened at 9:30 am and he was shot by Charles J. Guiteau at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. Garfield ultimately died because of his wounds 79 days later on September 19 1881. Guiteau was so offended by Garfield's rejections of his various job applications so he shot him.Added to timeline:
