Description:

Capt. Richard Pearis was raising Loyalists men to fight for the British including David Fanning, who had recently escaped from the Patriots again. Capt. Thomas Woodward of the Fairfield Regiment raided the Loyalist camp on the Reedy River. Many of the Loyalists were captured but most of them managed to escape. The captured Loyalists were sent to Ninety Six and imprisoned. Capt. Pearis and Capt. Fanning were captured, but Pearis escaped to Florida David Fanning was "acquitted" and released. Richard Pearis, the first white settler in Greenville County established his Great Plains Plantation with a trading poist, and grist mill on the banks of Reedy River near falls. After the war, Pearis moved to Abaco, Bahamas.
