jun 1, 1777 - HMS Daphne and the Polly skirmish with 6 Canoes
Description:
Two British naval vessels, the Daphne and a recently-captured sloop Polly, while flying French colors entered into Charles Town harbor. After attracting the attention of some locals in six small boats, who perhaps had come out to the ships to trade, the British took all of them prisoner. Most of those persons taken were slaves, those that belonged to Patriots were sold at market in St. Augustine, while those slaves who belonged to Loyalists living in St. Augustine were returned to them.
