nov 29, 1780 - Skirmish at Rutledge's Ford (Rutledge Shoals)

Description:

After the battle of Blackstocks Farm, Brigadier General Thomas Sumter's forces proceeded northward after that engagement. The immediate objective was to attack a Loyalist fort at Hoil's old place on the Saluda River. Loyalist learned of the Patriot's approch, abandonded the fort crossing the river at Rutledge's Ford. The Patriots caught the Loyalist at the ford and a skirmish occured across Rutledge Shoals killing several on both sides.
