Description:

Patriot Col Edward Lacey wanted to increase the size of his force. He seized a barrel of whiskey from a Tory name Knight near the Chester Courthouse. He then used the whiskey to enlist 150 "whiskey loving" Irishmen. They mounted and began moving to met Thomas Sumter at Fishdam Ford. At Jenkin's Crossroad, they met a British patrol from Winnsboro. Their drunken rabble rousing scared the British off. Once Lacey regained control taking a secondary route to met with Sumter at Fishdam Ford. When Lacey's men arrived at Sumter's camp and began dismounting in a most drunken manner still swigging their whiskey.
