Description:
On November 7th. Col Francis Marion was warned in time to avoid the ambush and he withdrew his Patriots to Richbourg's Mill near Jack Creek. On the 8th Col Marion continued to stay ahead of Lt Col Tarleton's Legion using delaying tactics with Major James rear guard until he slipped into the Ox Swamp. Lt Col Tarleton gave up the chase refering to Marion as an old fox so the nickname 'Swamp Fox" was given.
