oct 25, 1780 - Skirmish at Tearcoat Swamp (Black River)

Description:

Col Marion learned Lt Col Samuel Tynes was operating near High Hills area between Salem and Nelson's Ford. Lt Col Tynes was camped in the fork of the Black River with Tearcoat Swamp to his back for protection. Col Marion arrived the night of 25 October, scouted the Loyalist camp and waited until midnight to attack. Col Marion split his force into three groups surprising the Loyalist killing 6, wounding 14 and capturing 23. Lt Col Tynes and a few Loyalist escaped into the swamp but were later captured by Capt William Clay Snipes.
