aug 2, 1776 - Charles Town received news of the Declaration of Independence

Description:

On August 2, 1776, Charles Town received news of the Declaration of Independence with much partying. The State then entered a two year period of calm that bordered on apathy. On August 5th, President John Rutledge made the formal announcement of Independence, which was followed by a procession and the city's troops paraded near the Liberty Tree.
