oct 5, 1780 - Skirmish at Hollingsworth's Mill
Description:
About eight or ten Patriots were patrolling south of Kings Mountain to gain intelligence on where Major Patrick Ferguson and his American Volunteers were. They were also looking for other Patriot units to see what they were up to. They learned that 250 Loyalists were encamped at the schoolhouse near Hollingsworth's Mill on Brown's Creek. They approached the hilltop and when discovered rushed the camp hollering and firing. The Loyalist fled leaving supplies and weapons. A small group of Loyalist returned two days later, were ambushed and dispersed and the supplies carried away but the Patriots.
