Description:
Col. Thomas Sumter sent a detachment under the command of Col. Thomas Taylor to attack Cary's Fort on the Wateree River. The fort was built by Loyalist Lt Col James Cary on his plantation to guard the Wateree Ferry. Taylor's men surprised the British garrison, killing 7, capturing Col Cary and 30 Loyalist militiamen, 38 wagons of supplies, their teams and 300 head of cattle.
