On August 1, a detachment from the 3rd South Carolina Rangers had been patrolling near Seneca Town. They stopped for the night and set up camp. They failed to set up any security for the camp. A party of Cherokee Indians surprised the Rangers with a brief firefight. The Rangers were driven away from the camp.Added to timeline:
