jul 15, 1781 - Skirmish at Quarter House Tavern
Description:
Col. Wade Hampton skirmished with a small Provincial force on Charles Town Neck near the Quarter House. During the flight, Lt. David Waugh shot and killed Capt. John Wright and two others, but he was in turn killed. The garrison at the Quarter House surrendered, but one of the Loyalist was killed trying to escape. Col. Hampton's men burned four vessels loaded with supplies for the British Army. He and his men stayed for almost two hours enjoying the enemy's food and drink, then promptly departed when they heard news that British dragoons were on their way.
