apr 15, 1781 - Skirmish at the home of Loyalist Maj William Downes
Description:
During the evening, Patriots rode upon the home of Loyalist Maj Downes having a party in his yard. Patriots ordered Downes to surrender which he did until realizing the Patriots small number. He ordered his men to fire as he and James Matthews ran into th house then firing and killing several Patriots. Downes realized resistance was futile and surrendered again. When he and Matthews exited the house, they were shot dead for violating his original surrender then killing several Patriots. The Patriots were possibly Lt McDonald but is not confirmed.
