mar 11, 1781 - Skirmish at Black River Bridge (Kingstree Lower Bridge)
Description:
Lt Col Tadwell-Watson pursued General Marion down the Santee Rd from Wyboo Swamp. Lt Col Tadwell-Watson turned towards Kingstree so Marion turned to deny him access. At the lower Black River bridge Patriots removed planking and burned the eastern end of the bridge. Watson attempted a frontal assualt but Patriot riflemen killed the assualt leader and others. Watson attempted another crossing at a ford but was also repulsed by terrain and Patriot sharpshooters prevented his crossing at both locations. Lt Col Tadwell-Watson retired to the Witherspoon Plantation.
