jan 23, 1781 - Skirmish at Wiggin's Hill (Plantation)

Description:

On January 23rd, at the Wiggin's Plantation, a group of British, Loyalists, and Indians led by Lt. Col. Thomas Brown of the King's Rangers made camp at Wiggin's Plantation. The Patriot force, commanded by Lt. Col. William Harden on January 24th, shortly after midnight rode into the camp, terrifying the Loyalist militia. The British Rangers did not panic. They quickly formed into a battle line, fired at the Patriots, driving them out of the camp. At 8:00 AM the Patriots attacked and were repulsed a second time scattering into the Coosawhatchiee Swamp.
