sep 15, 1940 - Battle of Britain

Description:

Since the French signed an armistice on June 17, 1940, the British were now alone against Germany as they conquered most of Western Europe. The Germans decided to stage an attack on London on September 7, which was mostly successful, and then on September 15, which was not. Although Germany had been quite successful in the war so far, the British actually had the advantage: their air defence system was extremely effective, the German Luftwaffe had faced significant losses in previous battles, and they barely had a navy after Norway. The result of the Battle of Britain was a British victory, and the Germans faced many losses while losing morale as well. This also shifted public opinion about the British--before, they seemed like the underdogs, but now that they had this overwhelming victory, people (especially Americans) began rallying behind the British.
