jan 1, 1911 - Ernest Rutherford
Description:
1. He contributed to the understanding of the atom because he established that the mass of the atom was heavily in the nucleus.
2. An important experiment he conducted was the gold foil experiment. Alpha particles were set to beam at a piece of gold foil. Some of the particles scattered backwards, while the majority went through the foil. This demonstrated that most of the atom is full of empty space, surrounded by a small nucleus.
