jun 5, 2009 - VANITY FAIR ON LOCATION
THE JOHNNY DEPP
COVER SHOOT
SAN JUAN
PUERTO RICO
Description:
FROM VANITY FAIR:
A few months ago, the Vanity Fair photo department was asked to prepare for yet another adventure: this time, a cover shoot with the charming Johnny Depp at a beautiful international location. The photos would accompany a profile of the actor being written by contributing editor (and Depp pal) Douglas Brinkley for the July issue. Our original plan was to rendezvous with Depp, photographer François-Marie Banier, and a V.F. fashion team in Paris, where we'd been told Depp would be staying and where François-Marie is based. But it was not to be. Depp was headed to his private island in the Bahamas, and we awaited an e-mail or a Twitter message for further details. At last, we got word—that our cover subject would be traveling to Puerto Rico to shoot a film adaptation of The Rum Diary, a book by his late friend Hunter S. Thompson, and that we could meet him in Old San Juan for an afternoon photo session.
