jan 1, 1807 - The Slave Trade is No Longer in Effect

Description:

This was the official ending of the slave trade, marking an end to the transporting of Africans to the U.S. for slavery. National Geographic (4) exhibits the problems that also existed within it in this sentence, "The Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves mandates that no new slaves are to be imported into the United States. The act was not well-enforced, and slaves continued to be imported on a more limited basis. Moreover, the law outlawed the slave trade, not slavery itself. Although, this law was not overly effective in its goals, it was one step closer to ending the act of slavery.

(4) National Geographic is part of the National Geographic Society, which has continued to publish it's magazine since 1888.
