JOHNNY Depp had a daily ritual as he embraced the character of bank robber John Dillinger for his role in Public Enemies. While donning a pinstriped suit to play the dapper 1930s fugitive, Depp would put on Artie Shaw's drama-filled 1938 recording of Nightmare to get into the right mindset, sometimes playing the track several times a day.

"I listened to that song the most," Depp says in Los Angeles. "Because when you listen to that song, it can be applied to almost every scene. Music always helps me. It's in every conversation we have every day. There's always some sort of soundtrack going on, whether it's the beeping of horns outside or the shuffling of papers, so yeah, I try and keep music going at all times."
