jul 1, 1587 - Colonists arrive in Roanoke, Virginia
Description:
In May of 1587, a group of 117 colonists were sent to settle on the shores of Chesapeake Bay to establish England's second colony in America. The first colony established was not successful and the colonists returned to England after just one year. This new colony was the one that started the development of the other colonies. It was a big event in the American revolution. Even though the new colony was meant to be established on the shores of Chesapeake Bay, the commander of the ships at the time was not willing to sail past the Roanoke island and the colonists were forced to land there in July of 1587. So, the lost colony has been established. This colony, though successfully established, disappeared from the island after three years and the first colonists of America was never seen by any Europeans ever again.
