20h 22min, apr 1, 1945 y - Battle of Okinawa

Description:

The last great battle experienced in the Pacific War, before the ruthless atomic bombings, was the Battle of Okinawa, which took place on the island of Okinawa of Japanese origin and is located only 340 km from the Empire of Japan. The contest was also the second greater military landing of the history (being surpassed only by the Descent in Normandy, 1944) and it tried that the Americans dominated the island to turn it into a military base from which they would attack Japan. The Japanese, meanwhile, were in a critical position, having suffered devastating bombings in more than 30 cities.

The battle began on April 1, 1945, when ships, planes, tanks and US soldiers arrived on the island and began a rapid advance along the site. The Japanese, who were very weak from the previous bloody battles, tried to fight everything against the Americans, facing one of the bloodiest war battles, with highly destructive weapons, devastating attacks and both military and civilian casualties. For this reason it was also known as Steel Typhoon. As expected, everything resulted in another disaster for the Japanese army and finally, on June 21, 1945, the United States took full control of Okinawa.
