17h 28min, aug 7, 1942 y - Battle of Guadalcanal
Description:
On August 7, 1942, United States troops, with the help of Australians, landed in the Solomon Islands, specifically on the island of Guadalcanal, to prevent the construction of a Japanese base in the territory and to have control of the place. The Empire of Japan, which was making military campaigns in Papua New Guinea, was surprised by the invasion of its enemies and immediately sent troops to the island to fight. For the next six months there was one of the greatest battles of the Pacific War.
In its beginnings, the battle in Guadalcanal was very partial for both sides, living in the land, sea and air. In addition, in the first months, the attacks were very strong and both the United States and Japan suffered great casualties.
Finally, the Japanese failed in an offensive and since then they were abandoning the efforts to retake the island and on February 3, 1943, the troops of the Empire of Japan officially surrender in battle.
