Vander encounters Jhoffrey, The Sentient Tree, who has possession of the Darkroot. Realizing that this is a part of him, he spends some time bargaining and eventually restores his dexterity. This not only grants him superhuman speed, but also in tandem with the other parts greatly enhances his connection with his realm, allowing him many more ways to bend his power to his will.
