jan 1, 1400 BC - Invention of Writing (Shang Dynasty)

Description:

The Shang made many contributions to the Chinese Civilisation, but one of the most notable contributions is the invention of writing. The oracle bone inscriptions are the oldest known form of Chinese writing, and, as well as bronze inscriptions, contain the only written history from the Shang era.
The invention of writing in the Shang dynasty is so significant because it developed all the principles of the modern Chinese writing system used today. These principles have survived for thousands of years, and almost all of what is known of the Shang dynasty is from Oracle bone inscriptions, which all shows the long and lasting legacy the impact of the invention of writing in the Shang Dynasty has given.
