jun 17, 1892 - Homestead Strike
Description:
In July of 1892, workers at Andrew Carnegie's Homestead steel plant near Pittsburgh, PA went on strike to protest a reduction in pay. 300 (for hire) Pinkerton detectives attempted to break the strike with guns, a battle ensued in which 10 people were killed and 60 were wounded. The Union and the strike were later broken up by Federal troops. This event shows the growing intensity of labor organization and their will to confront the companies they worked for.
