The Declaration of the rights of man and of the citizen is a document of the French Revolution and in the history of human civil rights. It was drafted by General Lafayette. The Declaration was a core statement of the values of the French Revolution and it had a major impact on the development of freedom and democracy in Europe and worldwide. Everything inside of the document came from the ideals of the Enlightment. It was introduced by a preamble describing the fundamental characteristics of the rights which are qualified as being "sacred"
