Out of many Dakota people who surrendered or were captured after the war, 303 men went to a court and were accused of murdering people. Abraham Lincoln reviews the actuations and sentences 264 people as prisoners. Then He signs an order that allows 39 men to hang to their death. 38 men hung on December 26, 1862, and that was the largest mass execution in U.S. history.
