In early Sept., Sibley tries to negotiate a settlement Little Crow, but he is not ready to quit. He explains the reasons for the war and states that he is willing to release prisoners. Sibley demands surrender. Little Crow refuses. By mid-september, Sibley and his troops move up to the Minnesota river, arriving at Lone Tree lake where they camp on the night of September 22.
