Of the hundreds of Dakota people who surrendered or were captured during the U.S Dakota war, 303 men are trialed in a millatary court and convicted of raping and murdering suvilians. At the urging of missoinary Henry Whiple, President Abe Licoln reviews the convictions and commutes the sentences of 264 prisoners to death and some are also hanged in the largest death massucure in history.
