mar 14, 736 - Leo IV Start its campaign against Arabs

Description:

According to Leo IV's military diary, he set up an early plan to defeat the Arab Caliphate in 733, which would have two forces, one led by the Emperor himself, about thirty thousand men from Tagmata and Themes of minor asia and balkans, and would mustered inside Cappadocia then march south through the Cilician Gate to taking back the city of Antioch. After that, Antioch will become an important base to launch further campaigns south aimed at retaking Tripolis; the other led by general Artabasdos, within about twenty-thousand men, would march south from Anatolik Armenia and retake the fortress cities of Dara and Nisibis to put the Romans in a good position of strike Edessa, then resecure all of northern Syria from there.

After sent a note to the Persian Shahanshah Bahram VI about the campaign, Leo IV led his army through the Cilician Gate and start the campaign in march 14, 735.
