Description:

In 730, the Berbers in North Africa launched another series of raids against the Exarchate; and Leo IV gathered about half of his tagmata and sailed for Africa, a number of raiding parties were tracked down and defeated, which become the first real combat experience of the Emperor. Later, Nikephoros extracting a truce with local Berber leaders, requiring payments of cash from the Romans and federate troops to be provided for the Roman army from the Berbers.
After the battle, the old Africa Exarchate, seen as an obsolete tool by Nikephoros, was abolished and regrouped into themes.
