Description:
The second largest oil per mile ratio of any oil field in the United States. It is thought to have originally contained as much as 25 billion gallons of oil. It was discovered in 1963 by Humble Oil (Exxon) and Atlantic Richfield Company. When it shut down in 2006, this lead to an 8% reduction in all US oil produced. It has been a point of political tension since its founding in how to balance commerical and envirenmental concerns. (land/people)
