apr 1, 1534 - Henry VIII forms the Church of England
Description:
Henry VIII, born in 1491, was the King of England from 1509 until his death in 1547. He is best known for having 6 wives, and upgrading the Royal Navy to one of the strongest fleets in the world. He also enacted major religious reforms despite being a Catholic, separating England from the Papacy in Rome.
In 1534, Henry formally established the Church of England, partly for personal reasons involving his marriage. Henry allied himself with Protestants, as the Reformation was underway, and over the next few centuries England would turn to a full Protestant country.
