aug 4, 1914 - Britain declares war on Germany
Description:
→ The British cabinet was divided, and could not come to a decision. However, when Germany advanced on Belgium, the war party led by Sir Edward Grey won over the majority in the cabinet. This was a violation of Belgian neutrality as guaranteed by the Treaty of London (1839).
→ Britain needed the valuable channel ports of Belgium in order to supply troops and equipment to France and could not afford to lose them to Germany.
