Description:
→ Germany, pressed by the need to implement the Schlieffen Plan, could not wait for a French response. They went ahead with plans to launch a flanking attack on France through Belgium by issuing Belgium with an ultimatum requesting free passage for its troops.
→ When Belgium rejected the ultimatum, Germany declared war on France and advanced into Belgium on the 4th August.
