jul 5, 1914 - 'Blank Cheque'
Description:
German Chancellor Hollweg gave Austria full unconditional support.
→ Neither Germany nor Austria wanted to start a major European war. Their intentions were:
→ Austria and Germany would wage a brief, punitive war on Serbia which would remain localised.
→ Russia would not intervene because it was financially unprepared and because the war would be seen as just retribution for Franz Ferdinand’s assassination.
→ Serbia would be rapidly defeated, restoring the prestige of the Dual Alliance and putting Germany in a position of power to improve relations with the powers of the Triple Entente.
