apr 1, 1477 - William Caxton publishes Canterbury Tales
Description:
The Canterbury Tales were a collection of short stories written in Middle English by Geoffrey Chaucer. The stories are a staple of early English literature, having been read and distributed in a widespread manner.
The tales were first published by William Caxton in 1477, and demand quickly skyrocketed. He moved to Westminster, and using Gutenberg's printing press, sold many copies, of which only 10 still exist today. These short stories are known well, and were some of the earliest compendiums of short stories, which made a huge impact in narrative writing.
