jan 1, 1444 - Michelozzo designs the Medici Riccardi Palace
Description:
Michelozzo was an Italian architect and sculptor, born in 1396. He designed several important buildings in Italy, such as the Medici Riccardi Palace, and the San Marco. He was relatively obscure however, given that a lot of his work was overshadowed by some of his fellow Renaissance men, Donatello and Brunelleschi in sculpting and architecture respectively.
The Medici Riccardi Palace was designed by Michelozzo for Cosimo de' Medici in Florence, and took 40 years to build between 1444 and 1484. The classical Roman architecture that influenced Michelozzo can be seen in the building's design, which to this day is still used in Italy. Today, the palace is the seat of the regional government in Florence.
