Michelangelo was an artist and sculptor born in 1475 near Florence, accomplishing many pieces of art such as the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, the Pietà, and David. His works and life were very well documented, and he is often seen as the greatest artist of the time period.

David was a sculpture made between 1501 and 1504, depicting the Biblical figure of David. The piece came to represent things such as the liberty of the values of the Republic of Florence, and resistance to the Medici family in Rome. As Michelangelo has, the statue has become widely known worldwide, attracting many tourists as it resides in the Galleria dell'Accademia.
