feb 13, 2008 - The Apology
Description:
In 1995 there was a national inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders children from their families. This inquiry was held by the president of the Human Rights and Equality Commission, Sir Ronald Wilson. There were 800 submissions by 1996 and in 1997 the Bringing Them Home report was made in Parliament. The Apology was made from the Australian Prime Minster elected in 2007, Kevin Rudd. He delivered the official apology on the 13th of February 2008. He reflected on how the nation regrets the past government policies that had resulted in the removal of Aboriginal children from their families. The apology was an apology to the indigenous people of Australia who were scarred by the government policies that discriminated them and their race.
