jan 26, 1972 - The Tent Embassy
Description:
The tent embassy was a beach umbrella set up on the lawns opposite Parliament house with four Aboriginal men inside. This was a protest to provide experience to the government of how the aboriginals felt, with them landing on their land and saying it’s theirs. Proving how their actions had interfered with their land rights. This embassy did run in many locations and was established in multiple forms before it became a permanent establishment on those same lawns in 1992. The intentions of these protesters had changed over time from not only land rights but indigenous sovereignty and self-determination.
