jan 26, 1938 - The Day of Mourning
Description:
This day is currently celebrated as the landing of the First Fleet but it has been a struggle for Aboriginals ever since that day. A group of Aborigines of Australia 150 years later assembled in the Australian Hall, Sydney, to protest against the treatment that they faced from white people during this time. They appealed to the nation to have new laws for educating and caring about Aboriginals and that they are raised to full citizen status and are equal in the community. This event had also influenced the referendum that occurred many decades later.
