may 27, 1967 - Australian Referendum

Description:

The Australian Referendum was in the making for a decade before it was voted for at 90.77% in favour for changes in the Australian Constitution which was set up to discriminate aboriginals. This large favour gave the Federal Government the power to make laws for indigenous people that would consider them as Australians, meaning that Aboriginals would be counted as part of the census and take responsibility for aboriginal affairs with state governments. This referendum resulted in aboriginals to be subject to Commonwealth laws and not state laws.
