oct 1, 1966 - Establishment of the Black Panther Party
Description:
The Black Panther Party for Self-Defence shortened to the Black Panther Party was founded in 1966 by two men, Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton. They were two students who formed this party that followed Malcom X’s ideology of, “Freedom by any means necessary.” This party had campaigned for the equality of African Americans resulting in the empowerment for black people to the modern world (Black Lives Matter) and influenced other minority groups globally to take action on issues. The Black Panther Party challenged police brutality against black people and launched more than 30 Survival Programs that provided support for communities through education, health tests, legal aid, assistance with transportation, ambulance services and production of free shoes for people in poverty. They had believed in, “Black people are free to determine our own destiny.”
