oct 2, 1935 - Italy Invades Ethiopia

Description:

After the Walwal incident, both the Italians and the Abyssinians were exonerated, but Mussolini did not like this because he believed Abyssinia should have been held accountable. This was used as a reason for invading Abyssinia. Mussolini wanted to provide land for unemployed Italians and also acquire more mineral resources to stop the effects of the Great Depression. After refusing any offers of arbitration, the Italians officially invaded Ethiopia. The League of Nations voted to impose economic sanctions on Italy, but because of lack of support, these sanctions were ineffective.
